Now You Own A Pick UP, Don’t Forget Cargo Bars And Cargo Net
A while back we’ve been on the road for a few weeks , and we had a lot things in our trunk . I have to say what I have on the truck is just a mess, all kinds of stuff piled together, you can see all those trash like stuff I don’t want, such as old shoes, useful or useless cables, phones, etc., some toys from years ago, a barely working exercise bike, etc. I tried to load them up in an ordered fashion but it was proved that my effort was futile. When I was looking at the dump site, I was just amazed by myself, I actually did this! Then it occurred to me that I couldn’t get on my way like this, What would happen to me if I did drive like this? most likely the big mess would just throw themselves off the truck and there would be high probability to cause accidents, or before anything could happen I would be stopped by a police officer and get ticketed.
I had at lease two options , I either could repack everything and tie them down or just hold the whole mess together with something, OK, even I start over I still will have to find something to secure the load, these choices actually mean one thing, I need some cargo control stuff for my pick up. Of course in this case we don’t need big tie downs like 10,000lb ratchet strap or grade 70 binder chains,
The tie down is a really big product category, there are so many different kind of tie downs, but I only search for stuff for pick up truck, first I came across 1” ratchet straps, 6 or 9 feet, but with 2000 or 3000lb strength they were overkill in a sense, even they were not too expensive, for the same reason those cam buckle straps were not good choice, all I found was too much for my simple application which was to hold things together, I don’t think the ratchet straps could improve my situation there, 1” straps weren’t helpful here. Small pieces need something like a net to hold them together, not tie downs. Then I ran into this gem: cargo net for pick ups, the size is 48”x60” which is ideal for my truck, just put the cargo net on top the pile then tie it down, you’re all set. Here we have to introduce the bungee cords , the essential part of the cargo net, you can use the cords separately or connected together just like cargo net. To say the least, both cargo net and bungee cord are commercial tie downs compare to industrial tie downs, which means they are light duty and small in size, and they are mostly being used to hold small stuff. There are a lot interesting use for these cords and nets, the only limit is your imagination. Now let’s talk about something else, a lot of time you will see people have lock bars in their vehicle, you can use these cargo bars(lock bars or load bars) as trunk divider, stop stuff from shifting, the cargo bar is somewhat universal pick up tie down device.
